Candle safety & Tips

When it comes to lighting your favorite candle, there are a few key steps to ensure you get the most out of it. Follow these expert tips for a safe and even burn every time.

Why is it important to allow the wax to pool all the way to the edges?

Allowing the wax to pool all the way to the edges of the glass jar during the first burn is crucial. This process creates a "melt pool" that helps prevent tunneling, ensuring an even burn throughout the life of the candle.

What should you keep in mind while burning your candle?

Always remember to burn your candle on a level, heat-resistant surface. Never leave a candle unattended, especially around pets and children. Keep it away from drafts like fan vents, doorways, or windows to prevent uneven burning.

Why is trimming the wick important?

Using a wick trimmer in between burns is essential for maintaining a safe flame height. Not trimming the wick at all can lead to a large flame and the candle burning too hot. On the other hand, if the wick is trimmed too short, it can get buried by the wax, causing issues as the candle burns down. Trim the wick carefully to around 1/4 of an inch for optimal burning.

What should you do if the candle's flame becomes erratic?

If you notice the candle's flame burning or flickering wildly and it doesn't calm down, it's best to extinguish the candle. Wait a few hours for it to cool before relighting. This precaution can help prevent any potential hazards and ensure a safe burning experience. Do not burn your candle more than 4 hours at one time.

Discard or recycle your candle jar when there is 1/4" of wax left. Do not use room sprays or other flammables sprays near open flame. Never move or touch the candle jar when the wax is in liquid form. Never extinguish a candle with water.
